Maximilien LUCE was a French painter and engraver, born in Paris in 1858 and died in Paris in 1941.
It is part of the neo-impressionistmovement, using the pointillist technique pioneered by Georges Seurat, and then evolved towards a more classical technic .
As libertarian activist, he took an interest in the working world, the daily lives of soldiers, Parisian railway stations and construction sites... From 1917 onwards, his vision of the world became calmer. He depicted nature, the banks of the Seine, bathers and the sea.
Prolific and much-appreciated painter, he can be found in numerous museums and private collections in France, Switzerland and the USA.
