Niki de SAINT PHALLE

Niki de SAINT PHALLE was a Franco-American visual artist, painter, printmaker and sculptor who was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1930 and died in 2002 in La Joffa, California.

Initially a model, she began painting in 1952, drawing her inspiration from several currents, including theArt Brut by Dubuffet. From 1961, she was a member of the New Realists with Gérard Deschamps, César, Mimmo Rotella, Christo and Yves Klein.

In 1971, she married the artist Jean Tinguely, with whom she created numerous architectural sculptures.

She became internationally famous with her Tirs and his Nanas. She received numerous public commissions for fountains, parks and gardens. Her highly colorful works, often strong and oversized, are characteristic of her production.

Her work can be found in museums all over the world, and has been the subject of numerous exhibitions. A major retrospective was devoted to her at the Grand Palais in Paris in 2014, then at the Guggenheim in Bilbao in 2015.
